8. Spin on the float tube…. right up to the lock nut. Ensure the rail is aligned with the rail on the upper receiver. I used a A3 carry handle, half on the receiver, and half on the float rail, to acheive this. Then tighten the locking nut. You can use the YHM tool for this 1911 Grip, or a hammer/punch/flat blade screwdriver.
9. Now install the FSB back on the barrel, and the gas tube. Remember to put the AR-15 Accessories pin back in the gas tube if you removed it:

In modern times, one could argue the dependency for survival on a rifle is not what it may have once been. We have burglar alarms, cellular phones, laws and police forces, a powerful army, and technology has made us safer than ever. At the same time, technology has made us more vulnerable than ever before. A small group has the potential to wipe out millions of people with a single Pistol Grip weapon. The fall of the Soviet Union has loosened the control over its existing nuclear weapons, and third-world countries can have nuclear arsenals. The threats from crime, terrorism, natural disaster, and weapons of mass destruction are real. If something were to happen today, you would need to have made a decision about the rifle you would select and be prepared for such an event.
So the need to select a “survival” rifle is real. Selecting a single “ideal rifle” is not easy. The AR15 series of rifles comes out ahead when compared to everything else. In the text that follows, this article will attempt to justify that decision, as well as to take it a step further and specify a single configuration of the AR-15 that is “ideal”.

Subsonic rounds have a 10/22 accessories of 330 m/s (1082 ft/s) or less and are sometimes equipped with an extra heavy,46-61grains 2.9-3.9 gram bullet. Conversely, some rounds contain little more than primer and an extra-light bullet. Subsonic rounds are especially favored for their perceived improved target accuracy, and for hunting. As the10/22 accessories in air at 20 °C (68 °F) is approximately 343.4 m/s (1126 ft/s), the subsonic round’s muzzle velocity is close to the speed of sound under many hunting conditions, or only very slightly below it. However, under cold air conditions at 0 °C (32 °F), the speed of sound drops to 331.5 m/s (1087.6 ft/s), essentially the same speed as the muzzle velocity of the subsonic round. Hence, a so-called subsonic round when used under slightly colder conditions than 0 °C (32 °F) is often no longer subsonic and instability may arise when crossing down through the speed of sound, reducing accuracy. To counteract this, some cartridge manufacturers have lowered the speed of their subsonic ammunition to 315 m/s (1030 ft/s) or significantly less, while other manufacturers still sell subsonic ammunition with a velocity only slightly under 330 m/s(1082 ft/s). Subsonic rounds do not work well in all semi-automatic .22 LR firearms, often failing to cycle the action.

The weight of the barrel will only refer to whether the barrel is a “heavy” one or not. The heavy-barrel (HB) designation means that there is more metal there. Some of these taper at different points, either underneath the handguards or from the front sight on. The HB whose thickness does not vary (i.e. is maintained from back to front) offers the most durable design. The 16″ barrels are available in a lightweight configuration, M4 profile (thin under handguards, thick outside handguards, and with a cutout to allow mounting of M203, and in a heavy barrel. For this rifle, a lightweight or M4 Gun Magazin profile offers the most advantages as far as weight and handling.

The .22 LR is inexpensive, often costing less than two US cents per cartridge. It is effective within 150 meters (490 ft) (after 150 meters the ballistics of the round are such that the large “drop” will be difficult to compensate). The relatively short effective range, low report, and light recoil has made it a favorite for use as a target practice ruger 10/22 accessories . The accuracy of the cartridge is good, but not exceptional; various cartridges are capable of the same or better accuracy. Still, the effectiveness of this cartridge is often underestimated. The trajectory of the .22 LR “has a 2.7 inch rise at 50 yards and 10.8 inch drop at 150 yards when zeroed at 100 yards.” [1] “Practically speaking, a .22 LR rifle needs to be zeroed at about 75 yards to avoid over-shooting small animals like squirrels at intermediate ruger 10/22 accessories .” [2]

Smith and Wesson j frame
I have a smith and wesson j frame grip I bought it for concealed carry purposes, but I haven’t quite found a setup I like. It came with a boot grip that I thought was too small to use. I couldn’t hold on to it well at all.
I bought a Hogue monogrip made of nylon, and absolutely loved the fact that it was a completely snag free draw. When I went to the range I found the gun rotated laterally in my hand too much and I was regripping between every shot. Follow up shots were not rapid at all. It didn’t matter how hard I gripped the weapon, I could not make it stop rotating. Not ideal for ccw needs.
I tried the Pachmayr compac and I love the way it feels in my hand when shooting, it doesn’t rotate at all and follow up shots are quick because it fills my hand well. I don’t like the rubber grip for ccw as it drags on clothing much too easily.
If anyone has any good ideas for a hand filling grip for the Smith and Wesson j frame revolver, please post recommendations and why. I prefer the wider grip of the Pachmayr compac but don’t want the rubber I would buy it if it were made of wood, but I cannot find any such beast on their web site.

Many .22 LR cartridges use bullets lighter than the standard 40 grains (2.6 g), fired at even higher velocities. The CCI Stinger was the first “hyper velocity” .22 LR cartridge, and provides a significant increase in velocity over standard .22 LR rounds. The Stinger uses a longer case, a stronger charge and copper plating on a lighter Ruger 10/22 stock. The case is longer than that of the normal Long Rifle cartridge, yet Stingers will fit in most Long Rifle chambered firearms. The powder is designed to burn more slowly and thus make the most use of the length of a rifle barrel. In the Stinger the extra case length is compensated by a shorter bullet, which is only available as a Ruger 10/22 stock. The thin copper layer on the bullet functions as a lubricant and reduces the friction between the high velocity bullet and the barrel, thus reducing barrel wear. It also has an oxidation-preventing effect on the lead bullet. Lead tends to oxidise if stored over long periods of time and as a result of this, the bullet’s diameter increases to a level that might both prevent the insertion of the cartridge in the chamber and might cause the pressure in the barrel to rise to a dangerously high level. The increase in pressure may lead to the case rupturing and potential danger to the shooter. Standard and subsonic cartridges tend to use a type of wax for the same purpose.
